my coworker just said “i have a phobia of gay people” so i said “there’s a word for that”. she said “but i’m not against it. i just have a phobia of them coming onto me” & i said “that’s homophobia baby!”

Look there’s a HUGE difference between being uncomfortable with being flirted with by someone you’re not attracted to and hating gay people. Yeah being uncomfortable around LGBT people isn’t great but come on. It’s 1000x better than actively wishing for their deaths. Give credit where it’s due

It’s amazing how people rationalize homophobia and say it’s because they’re uncomfortable with someone flirting with them, but if I was to say I am uncomfortable with men because of their flirting, the response is “Oh, it’s a compliment!” or “They’re just being nice!” or “You should be flattered!” It’s almost like people are taught that LGBT+ are predatory and creepy and dangerous and that we’re supposed to just accept and go with white straight male bullshit.

i’m a diehard environmentalist and i still think plastic straws are valid and useful so these people have no excuse tbh

Honestly? Same.

People have no idea what I do to try and help the planet. They have no clue the lengths I go to to live in an environmentally friendly house and to minimize my impact on the earth.

I even wrote a god damn article about environmental activism vs performative activism in the Zero Waste movement, and gave examples on how to live a more eco-friendly life.

It’s ugh, it’s whatever. People are going to complain no matter what. At least I’ll be hydrated while they do it.

@kristanlf here you go, tumblr version:
Sustainability vs the Mason Jar Aesthetic

Are y’all five and can’t drink from a glass without a straw?

I have profound nerve damage in my face and throat that prevents proper muscle function. I also have cfs and other muscle problems. I recently discovered that using straws helps to alleviate some of the pain and difficulty out of being able to drink fluids, because it puts less strain on certain muscles. This means that for the first time in over two years, I have been able to finish a glass of water without choking. So no, not five. Just very fortunate to be alive.

Have a good day, and I hope life is kind to you.

Truly unfortunate. Get a washable reusable metal straw.

As I have explained many, many, many times in the last 48 hours, this is not a feasible option for me, or many disabled people like me.

If you would like to know more, here is an informative video with captions to explain it:

A MOOD

Every second we take to enjoy life and take care of ourselves with things like STAYING IN BED ALL WEEKEND AND MARATHONING A FAVORITE SHOW to unwind and recharge is worth the same as the seconds we spend discharging that energy doin’ stuff.

Don’t make the mistake of equating the worth of your life with only how “productive” you can make everything moment of it. It’s not *supposed* to be summer all year.
